Grant Description
Grants of up to $30,000 to Florida government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and faith-based entities for summer programs that benefit underserved youth in eligible locations. Funding is intended to support accessible and high-quality summer services for underserved children and youth not traditionally enrolled and to enhance existing summer programs throughout Hillsborough County.

Existing summer programs will be enhanced by opportunities for children/youth enrolled to receive services from highly qualified content experts in six service areas:

  1. Safety (to include swim lessons or water safety education);
  2. Literacy (reading, language arts, and writing only);
  3. Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM);
  4. Character Development (may include financial literacy);
  5. Fitness/Nutrition; and
  6. Arts (visual or performing).

Failure to include all six service areas to serve all children/youth proposed in the submission will result in disqualification.

CBHC Priority Populations: Families with children/youth ages six (6) to fourteen (14) years old, including children with varying abilities.

Additional Eligibility Criteria
Proposers eligible for funding include not-for-profit corporations and governmental organizations legally operating in the state of Florida.

By statute Section 125.901, Florida Statutes, as it existed before October 1, 1990, the CBHC Board will not provide funding to programs or agencies that are under the exclusive jurisdiction of the School District of Hillsborough County. However, the Board may fund services through other organizations that are coordinated with and complement the services provided by the School District of Hillsborough County, and such services may be provided on sites owned or administered by the School District of Hillsborough County.

Funding may be provided for programs through faith-based or religious organizations if the program serves a secular purpose and if the principal or primary effect of the program is one that neither advances nor inhibits religion. Additionally, the program must not require worship or religious instruction activities as a condition of participation. All agencies funded by the Children's Board will be required to meet the same high level of professional standards and quality assurance measures.

For a list of unallowable services, organizations, locations, and target populations, see

CBHC funding or resources shall not be used to supplant funding for activities to which other local, state, or federal governmental agencies are obligated by statute,
administrative rule, or local ordinance to support.
