Eligible projects could include management through reducing the impact of extreme weather events; innovative approaches to responsible land and water management; or remediation of impacted watersheds.

Fellowships to USA, Canada, and International scholars to pursue humanities-related projects at an institute in Illinois. Funding is intended to facilitate research and the use of the Foundation's resources for a limited period of time. Several categories of fellowships are available. Applications that propose productive use of the Newberry’s collections are more likely to receive fellowship awards. The fellowships will take place at the Newberry in Chicago.

Grants of up to $6,000 to USA nonprofit organizations to support the provision of literacy services for students. Funding is intended for general operations, including but not limited to equipment, supplies, salaries, space rental, technology, teacher stipends, and more. Proposals may also focus on a particular project or new programming effort.

Fellowships of $5,000 to USA high school teachers to pursue writing projects. Applications are welcome from current teachers of grades 9-12 who consider themselves creative writers. Funding is intended to support the writing of new works in progress. The goal of the program is to allow fellows to focus on their writing over summer break.

Competition for USA, Canada, and International photographers for images in a selection of categories. There will be an award for the overall winner of the open competition and another for female photographers entering the competition, as well as 15 shortlisted photographers per category. The contest is open to all members of the public; images must be taken in 2024. Winners will be announced at a formal ceremony in London.

Competition for USA, Canada, and International young photographers to submit their favorite images taken in 2024. All genres, styles, and approaches are welcome; the contest is for applicants ages 19 and under. A shortlist of up to 9 individuals will be selected; the winner will be named Youth Photographer of the Year and will receive photographic equipment and free travel and accommodation to an awards ceremony.

Grants to USA nonprofit organizations, government agencies, businesses, IHEs and Tribes to strengthen the capabilities of maternal and child health programs. Recipients will be funded to align key activities and increase capacity of state and local MCH leaders toward a more effective, coordinated system of MCH care.

Grants of $5,000 to Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia businesses, business owners, and chambers of commerce in eligible locations for disaster relief efforts. Funding is intended to help communities recover from recent hurricanes by assisting small businesses and strengthening their ability to withstand future disasters through educational resources. Grants can be used for business needs, including expenses such as rent, utilities, payroll, inventory, and equipment. Eligible applicants have been negatively impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton.

Grants to Florida nonprofit organizations to support activities that advance equity and economic stability in eligible counties. Funding is intended for programs and initiatives that improve access to healthcare, basic human needs, and education for residents in the community who face systemic barriers. Requests will be accepted from nonprofits serving Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, and DeSoto counties.

Opportunity for USA military service members, veterans, and civilians to participate in a professional development program to further their work in enhancing the quality of life of veterans and military families. Selected participants will attend sessions on military transition issues over a five-month period that will sharpen their leadership skills, expand their network, and advance individual projects. Four of the five modules of the program take place in Dallas, with the remaining module in an additional city to be announced at a later date.

Fellowship of $5,000 to a USA scholar for research projects related to the musical and artistic traditions of Louisiana. The purpose of the program is to encourage the scholarly use of local historical resources and the production of new scholarship related to the artistic heritage of Louisiana.

Opportunity for California public libraries to participate in a professional development program to encourage immigrant engagement. The program includes a grant and other support that will enable library staff to design and implement a public humanities project at their library. The purpose of the program is to improve the capacity of libraries to engage immigrant populations through public humanities programs, thereby fostering more inclusive communities.

Fellowships of $8,000 to USA, Canada, and International researchers to study race and slavery at a university in the United States. The purpose of the program is to facilitate research regarding the impact of slavery and race on the United States and the world at large. The fellowship will take place at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut.

Grants to USA, Canada, and International early-career researchers in the fields of circadian and sleep research for assistance in submitting applications for federal funding. Funding is intended for projects that address important issues related to sleep health, circadian science, and sleep disorders.

Grants to USA, Canada, and International nonprofit organizations, IHEs, research institutions, and for-profits for initiatives addressing nutrition. Funding is intended to support projects that will have a significant impact in the fields of healthy diets, sustainable production, and consumer benefit.

Grants to USA and Canada educators at academic institutions to expand a lighting program. Funding is intended for the development of courses that improve instruction in lighting within the applicant institution. Benefit costs are allowable. Proposals that are multidisciplinary are encouraged. The program must be accredited and offer a Bachelor’s or Graduate degree.

Grants of up to $30,000 to USA and Canada educators at academic institutions for the addition of a lighting design component to an existing curriculum. Funding is intended to enhance programs in interior design, engineering, technology, and architecture. Eligible IHE programs should currently have either minimal or no lighting design offerings in their curricula. The program must be accredited and offer a Bachelor’s or Graduate degree.

Fellowship of $20,000 to a USA or Canada lighting educator at an academic institution for the opportunity to work in the industry or at an IHE with an established lighting program. The program is intended to expand the fellow's knowledge of architectural lighting, thereby improving their instruction on the subject. The participant will spend a significant portion of a semester in the lighting industry working with a manufacturing or design firm, or at a college or university with a thriving lighting program working with an established professor.

Grants to USA and territories nonprofit and for-profit organizations, agencies, IHEs, and tribal entities for AIDS research conducted by investigators from diverse backgrounds. Applicants are advised that required registrations may take several weeks to complete. Funding is intended to enable a pool of investigators from diverse backgrounds to submit subsequent R01 or equivalent applications through the support of these small research grants, as well as receive additional independent research grant awards, produce research results, and author publications.

Award to a USA, Canada, or International emerging woman playwright to recognize exceptional creative talent. The award is intended to honor full-length works written for theater production. In addition to a monetary prize, the winner will be given the opportunity to present a public reading and participate in a summer workshop as part of the Powerhouse Theater Program at Vassar College. All women, trans, and non-binary playwrights who consider themselves emerging (as distinct from fledgling or mid-career playwrights) are eligible to apply.

Funding is intended to support projects that reach broad and diverse public audiences in non-classroom settings in the United States. Projects should engage with ideas that are accessible to the general public and employ appealing interpretive formats.

This program funds investigation into how and what type of research is used by policymakers and others when developing policies and programs affecting young people ages 5-25 in the United States. The Foundation's goal is to determine whether improving research use leads to improved youth outcomes. Two types of grants are available: Major Grants and smaller Officers' Research Grants.

Grants and in-kind support to USA nonprofit and for-profit organizations for initiatives to improve education. Applicants are advised that registrations may take several weeks to complete. Funding is intended for projects at any stage of development.

Awards of $36,000 to USA Jewish teenagers to recognize outstanding leadership in community service. Awards will recognize teens who have demonstrated initiative in the creation of new projects or the expansion of existing projects that embody the concept of tikkun olam (repairing the world). Eligible awardees are Jewish teens between the ages of 13 and 19 who are currently serving in a leadership role and volunteering without any compensation.

Grants of up to $10,000 to USA nonprofit organizations, IHEs, Tribes, and government agencies to enhance the care and conservation of noteworthy humanities collections. Applicants are advised that required registrations may take up to a month to finalize. Funding is intended to help small and mid-sized institutions that have never received an NEH grant to improve their ability to preserve and care for their significant humanities collections.

Grants to USA and territories nonprofit organizations, for-profits, government agencies, IHEs, and others for research related to obesity. Applicants are advised that required registrations may take up to six weeks to complete. Funding is intended to support studies that assess the effectiveness of pending programs and policies that are likely to prevent or reduce obesity in a given population by reducing energy intake, increasing activity, or decreasing sedentary behavior.

Awards to USA and Canada young scientists to acknowledge exceptional contributions to the study of skin disease. Funds may be used for salaries, equipment, and materials necessary for conducting and completing dermatological research. The awards are intended to recognize outstanding scientists according to region. The purpose of the award program is to give global recognition to individual scientists who advance understanding of the field while paving the way for new and improved treatments for skin diseases.

Rebates to USA and territories state and local agencies, nonprofit and for-profit contractors, nonprofit school transportation associations, and Indian tribal entities for the acquisition of reduced or zero-emission school buses. Funding is intended to support projects that benefit the public such as community lighting, neighborhood entranceway signage, wall repairs, and playgrounds. Eligible applicants are voluntary, non-mandatory dues collecting organizations in Orange County.

Grants to USA, Canada, and International early-career researchers affiliated with nonprofit research institutions, hospitals, and universities for research related to Parkinson's disease. Funding is intended to assist researchers who are underrepresented in the field. Applications from investigators from underrepresented countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America are particularly encouraged.

Fellowship of $60,000 to a USA, Canada, or International postdoctoral or clinical researcher to conduct research related to sarcoma. The purpose of the program is to support translational or clinical research to advance knowledge about sarcoma and help the successful applicant establish a career path in this field.

Grants to USA, Canada, and International researchers affiliated with nonprofit organizations, IHEs, hospitals, laboratories, government agencies, and for-profit entities for research related to autoimmune disease. Funding is intended for projects designed to offer proof-of-concept data that can be used for the downstream development of larger, multi-year collaborative projects if successful. Applicants must hold an M.D., D.M.D, D.V.M., Ph.D., or equivalent and have a faculty position or equivalent at a college, university, medical school, or other research facility. Applications from persons with disabilities, women, and members of minority groups underrepresented in the sciences are encouraged.

Grants to USA IHEs and nonprofit and for-profit organizations to provide technical assistance to eligible renewable energy collaboratives. Funding is intended to strengthen the collaboratives and make them into a valuable resource and source of information within their states.

Eligible research projects are those that focus on the religious, socio-cultural, economic, legal, ethical, moral, and political aspects of the Holocaust, the immediate historical context in which the Holocaust took place, and other related topics. Grants to Florida organizations for sports events to foster tourism and economic development in eligible locations. Funding is intended for program-related expenses such as production, site fees, marketing, and travel for public events that attract visitors and result in overnight stays in Escambia County.

Grants to USA, Canada, and International researchers, health professionals, and scientists for research related to Alzheimer's disease. The purpose of this program is to support projects investigating the cause of Alzheimer's disease. Eligible projects must be narrowly focused on elucidating the possible roles of infectious agents in the causation of Alzheimer’s disease. The awards will support innovative research including basic, clinical, and/or non-traditional approaches. This includes proposals that span the breadth of the microbial world including bacteria, fungi, parasites, viruses, and microbial synergy among other possibilities.

Grants to Florida nonprofit organizations to address the needs of residents in eligible locations. Priorities for funding include providing early learning opportunities for low-income students, meeting the basic needs of local residents, and offering support for K-12 students. Eligible programs benefit Beaches communities from Mayport to Guana, east of the Intracoastal Waterway.

Fellowships to USA K-12 teachers to work with leading scientists on conservation research projects. The fellowship is a summer outdoor experience that provides teachers with new knowledge and perspective to share with their students. Fellows participate in recording observations and collecting data during the day, and in the evenings work with other fellowship participants to develop new lesson plans for use in the classroom.

Eligible recipients are psychologists within the first ten years of their postdoctoral degree. This award is intended to recognize efforts to advocate for, inform, and improve the mental health and well-being of families and children, particularly through policy.

Grants of up to $5,000 to USA individual medical students and residency programs to engage students in research studies related to the field of emergency medicine. Funding is intended to encourage medical students to take part in and be exposed to emergency medicine research. Proposals may be submitted by either a specific medical student or by an Emergency Medicine residency program wishing to sponsor a medical student research project.

Grants to USA small and medium-sized manufacturing facilities and waste and water treatment facilities for projects to improve energy efficiency. Grants of up to $10,000 to USA medical residents for research related to emergency medicine. Funding is intended to promote research within the field, advance patient care in emergency medicine settings, and promote the academic growth of researchers in the field. Emergency medicine research is broadly defined as scientific investigation designed to furnish new knowledge relating to emergency medical care. Such investigations may focus on basic science research, clinical research, preventive medicine, epidemiology, health care policy, or emergency medicine teaching and education.

Eligible uses of funds include program, project, or general operating support. The mission of the Foundation is to reduce recidivism by strengthening families of incarcerated individuals.

Fellowships of $8,000 to USA, Canada, and International conservation professionals to attend a one-month training program in the US. The program curriculum will be taught by a faculty of international experts who will work with fellows to explore new methods of employing market-based approaches to address environmental issues. Prizes to USA high school and undergraduate students to promote awareness of sleep and the circadian rhythm. Individuals and groups of individuals are invited to submit information graphics showing the issues of sleep problems faced by caregivers of people with long-term illness or disability.

Awards to USA, Canada, and International individuals, youth, institutions, companies, and organizations to recognize outstanding contributions to the field of sustainability. Awards are offered in both an adult and a youth category. The theme of the current award cycle is Trailblazing Leadership.

Grants of $500 and grants of $1,000 to Florida individual artists and nonprofit arts organizations in eligible locations for disaster relief efforts. Funding is intended to assist artists and arts nonprofits who were negatively impacted by the hurricanes during the Fall of 2024. Eligible applicants are located in Pinellas County.

Grants to USA, Puerto Rico, and U.S. Virgin Islands nonprofit organizations, local government agencies, and Tribes for activities to conserve forestlands. Applicants are advised that required registrations may take several weeks to complete. Funding is intended to support projects involving private forests under threat of conversion to non-forest purposes.

Grants to USA tribal, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian IHEs to advance research, education, and outreach in STEM and other disciplines. Funding is intended to support projects that build capacity, engage the community, and promote research across the social and behavioral sciences, natural sciences, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The purpose of the program is to improve instruction and instructional capacity, including curricular offerings, in tribal colleges and universities across the country.

Grants to USA small businesses for innovative research and development projects related to weather, climate, coasts, and oceans. Applicants are advised that required registrations may take several weeks to complete. The purpose of the program is to accelerate the development of commercial technologies. Grants will provide funding for conducting feasibility and proof of concept research.

Grants of up to $10,000 and in-kind support to USA nonprofit organizations, schools, school districts, libraries, and military organizations for programs to educate students about autism. Funding is intended for activities designed for K-12 students. The purpose of these grants is to enhance acceptance and awareness among students.

Grants to USA institutions of higher education, nonprofit organizations, for-profits, and local, Tribal, and state government agencies for research projects to foster advancements in the field of manufacturing. Applicants are advised that required registrations may take up to several weeks to complete. The purpose of the program is to support research that addresses significant problems in manufacturing.

Grants of up to $1,500 and grants of up to $2,000 to Florida community organizations, community leaders, and residents in eligible locations for programs to enhance safety. Funding may be used for projects in the following impact areas: community revitalization, economic investment, reentry, intervention, and prevention. Programs and projects must benefit Miami-Dade County.

Opportunity for USA collegiate educators to participate in a contest related to clean energy. Participants are challenged to devise educational activities related to alternative energy sources. Competitors will receive mentorship and resources to assist them in improving student engagement.

Funding is intended for a comprehensive study that will inform future policy and the development of future standards and building codes.
